Markel appoints Anne Hudson as business development manager
Markel International, the specialty property and casualty insurer, has strengthened its retail division, Markel (UK) Limited, with the appointment of Anne Hudson as business development manager.
Anne previously spent five years at Ecclesiastical Insurance Company, holding the positions of regional manager, national broker relationship manager and, latterly, head of business marketing at its head office.
Before that she spent over 20 years working for a range of insurers in a variety of head office roles, including product development manager at AXA and distribution risk manager at Lloyds TSB Insurance.
Commenting on Anne's appointment, Steve Carroll, managing director of Markel (UK) Limited, said: “This is a new senior position and Anne will be working closely with me and other members of the senior management team in helping to plot the strategic direction of the company. In addition, she will have overall responsibility for marketing, distribution, and research and development across all facets of our business.”
Carroll added: ”We are delighted to have such a highly qualified and experienced individual on board and I am sure that Anne will prove to be a valuable addition to our management team as we tackle the many challenges that lie ahead.”
Markel strengthens retail division with two senior hires
Markel International, the specialty property and casualty insurer, has strengthened its retail division, Markel (UK) Limited, with two senior appointments.
John Parkinson has been appointed as business operations manager. His role will involve developing Markel (UK) Limited’s online trading capabilities. He joins Markel International, having worked for Hastings Insurance Services, where he was Operations Director. Before that he held a number of senior positions at General Accident (now Aviva).
Rupert Joce has been appointed as senior technical underwriter with responsibility for expanding Markel (UK) Limited’s social welfare account.
Rupert previously spent nine years as a development underwriter with Ecclesiastical. Before that he spent over 20 years at Norwich Union (now Aviva), rising to the position of regional underwriting manager.
Steve Carroll, managing director of Markel (UK) Limited, said: “With over 25 years’ experience in the insurance industry, John will play a key role in helping us to grow Markel's retail business.
John's vast experience in e-trading will be invaluable to us as we strive to achieve our ambitious online trading aspirations, an area of the business which is becoming increasingly important. He brings with him a host of new ideas in this regard and we're glad to have such an experienced individual on board.”
Commenting on Rupert Joce’s appointment, Steve Carroll added: “As an insurer who values and appreciates technical underwriting skills, we are pleased to employ someone of Rupert's calibre. “Social welfare is a key area of our business and we are developing a team of high class individuals who thoroughly understand this specialist subject. Rupert certainly falls into this category and I am sure he will play his part to the full in building upon our early success.”
