From damaging clients’ property to causing injury to yourself or others, there are a variety of dangers to avoid. And if something goes wrong, the consequences can be devastating to your finances. This is why it’s vital that you have suitable insurance in place.
At Markel Direct, we feel we offer excellent value bathroom installers’ insurance that is tailored to suit the precise needs of your business.
Bathroom installers’ insurance is designed to protect your business from potential risks. It can include various types of cover, ranging from public liability insurance and employers’ liability insurance to financial protection for your equipment.
As a bathroom installer, you’ll know that the key to success in any project is effective planning. This carries through to your finances. No matter how careful you are, there is always a chance that problems will arise. If you hit a water pipe in a customer’s property and caused an expensive leak, would you be able to cover the repair costs? Or what if a member of the public tripped over your tools and suffered a serious injury? Could your finances stretch to the legal fees and compensation costs you might face? Then there are your tools to think about. If your equipment was lost, stolen or damaged and you didn’t have suitable cover in place, you’d have to fund the replacement or repair costs out of your own pocket.
If you would struggle to cope with expenses like these, it makes sense to take out appropriate cover. It's also worth bearing in mind that some customers may insist that you have public liability insurance in place before they will hire you for a job. And if you have employees, you’re required by law to take out employers’ liability cover.

At Markel Direct, we pride ourselves on offering superb value tradesman insurance that you can rely on. Here are just some of the reasons to choose us when you’re looking for cover for your business.

Public liability insurance for bathroom installers is designed to protect you against claims made by members of the public who have suffered an injury or damage to their property because of your business. We provide public liability insurance with cover limits ranging from £1 million to £5 million.
Example of a claim:
While installing a new radiator as part of a bathroom refit, you accidentally damage a pipe. This pipe springs a leak, causing significant water damage to the customer’s property. They seek compensation to repair the damage.
Employers’ liability insurance covers your legal fees and damages you may owe if an employee is injured or made ill by the work they do for you. If you have people working for you, even if they do so on a temporary or part-time basis, you’re required by law to have a minimum of £5 million of this financial protection in place. At Markel Direct, we provide cover of up to £10 million.
Example of a claim:
One of your workers injures their back while carrying supplies. They sue you for compensation for their suffering.
Tools insurance is there to protect you if you have to repair or replace tools that are lost, stolen or damaged. At Markel Direct, we offer cover limits of between £1,000 and £5,000.
Example of a claim:
The garage where you keep your tools is targeted by thieves, who steal a number of expensive pieces of equipment. You face significant costs to replace the stolen items.
Legal expenses insurance can help to cover the cost of defending or pursuing legal actions against other parties such as suppliers, clients or employees. This could be for contract disputes, tax enquiries (including IR35), attending jury service, debt recovery, personal injury, as well as any award you are required to pay following an employment dispute with an employee. There is a limit of £100,000.
Example of a claim:
A supplier has failed to deliver building materials you’ve paid for and is ignoring your requests for a refund. You face the costs associated with recovering the debt owed to you.
Occupational personal accident insurance supports your income if you’re unable to work due to an injury you’ve suffered at work or while travelling to or from work. It can provide weekly payments or a lump sum, depending on the nature of your injuries.
Owned plant insurance will cover the costs of repairing or replacing plant machinery you own if it's damaged or stolen. Cover limits are available from £10,000 to £50,000.
If you hire in plant machinery from a leasing company, like concrete mixers or forklifts, hired in plant insurance will cover you if the machinery is damaged or stolen. Cover limits range from £10,000 to £50,000.
Contract works insurance can cover the work you complete on a construction site. For example, if your work is affected by a flood, fire, theft or malicious damage, contract works insurance can protect you financially.
Goods in transit insurance covers goods against loss or damage while travelling. This covers both goods transported in your own vehicle, or on your behalf by a third-party carrier.
If you offer designs or advice for a fee as a bathroom installer, you might want to take out professional indemnity insurance. This is designed to cover you if a client accuses you of making a mistake in a professional service you have provided.
The amount you will pay for bathroom installers’ insurance depends on a variety of factors. This could include the size of your business, the types of jobs you do and whether you employ anyone. Policies start from £17 a month. Fill in our online form to get a quote today.

Most types of bathroom installers’ insurance are not required by law. However, if you have employees, you are legally obliged to take out employers’ liability insurance. For every day that you lack this type of cover, you could be fined up to £2,500.
We recommend taking out bathroom installers’ insurance as soon as you set your business up. Ideally, you should have all of the cover you need in place before you start your first job for a customer. The unexpected can happen at any time, so it’s important that you’re covered from the start.
